With a history stretching all the way back to 1900's, Gibson Guitars are one of the worlds premier guitar brands that has found a new home in Australia with Australis Music Group.
Orville Gibson founded the company in 1902 as the "Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co. Ltd." in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to make mandolin-family instruments. Gibson invented archtop guitars by constructing the same type of carved, arched tops used on violins. By the 1930s, the company was also making flattop acoustic guitars, as well as one of the first commercially available hollow-body electric guitars.
As the years have gone on Gibson guitars represent the history as well as the future of the guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, Humingbirds, ES-335, J Series Acoustics, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls - are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal.
