New Ibanez Artwood Vintage Series Release

Ibanez is proud to release the new Artwood Vintage Series which now showcases another vintage element by applying an "aging" process to the tone wood - Thermo Aged tone wood, made by a special drying process at a high temperature which is commonly known as 'baking' or 'torrefaction'.

Based in Nagoya, Japan, Ibanez have showcased why they are one of the leaders in cutting edge guitar design and manufacturing. Popularising the seven-string and eight-string guitar, which gained acclaim in the United States, Ibanez have continued to create and innovate throughout the years.

This is showcased yet again in their new series of acoustic guitars, continuing the innovative slate of releases for the brand. The Ibanez Artwood Vintage acoustic range uses their Thermo Aged™ process to artificially age the wood, which gives off a better tone. Available in the Thermo-Aged acoustic range are four models, which include: ABD16LTD Solid Sitka Spruce Top with Solid Indian Rosewood back and sides, the AVD10 Solid Sitka Spruce Top with Solid Mahogany back and sides, AVC9 Solid Mahogany top back and sides, AVN9 Solid Mahogany top back and sides.

Ibanez have stressed the importance of the selected woods involved in the manufacturing of the new range. The wood is heated in a vacuum with a specific treatment for each kind of the wood in order to release water and decompose resin contained within the wood. As a result, Thermo Aged™ tone wood becomes light, hard and stable like tone wood dried for decades, while providing amazing response and a louder sound.

This process is commonly known as “baking” or “torrefaction,” As a result once the wood has been dried as such a high temperature the tone is characterized by a full-bodied low-end and a great smooth sustain in the treble strings which are common features of vintage guitars. In addition the Thermo-Aged process turns the spruce top amber, which adds a nice looking vintage element to the finish of the guitars.

At the higher end of the Thermo-Aged models are the AVD16LTD and the AVD10. Both the AVD16LTD and the AVD10 feature a deadnaught body with a solid Sitka spruce top. The AVD16LTD is available in solid Indian rosewood top, back and sides, while the AVD10 boasts a solid mahogany top, back and sides. Both are finished with a natural high gloss.

The entry-level of the range, the AVC9 and the AVN9 are similar with their structure as both feature a solid mahogany top, back and sides and open pore finishes. Also included with the Thermo Aged™ series are Grover open gear tuners with butterbean knobs (18:1 gear ratio), which ensure accurate, stable tuning and help reduce the headstock weight. Rounding out the plethora of additions that Ibanez have included are the original Mother of Pearl fretboard inlay and D'Addario’s Nickel Bronze strings.
