Ibanez has revived an ’80s relic from its shred guitar archive with the 540PIII. Its modern-day successor features a new pickup configuration that sees a passive V8 humbucker and a passive/ceramic Infinity R in the neck. It's saddled with a singular Volume knob and five-way switch to coax a variety of sounds from its pickups.

Elsewhere, its basswood body is paired with a five-piece maple/walnut Super Wizard neck that has a 43mm width at the nut, rising to 58mm at the 24th fret of its bound rosewood fretboard. White Sharktooth inlays replace the original's white pearl dots, a fitting tribte to '80s original.

Ibanez's Edge bridge and locking tremolo system are employed for whammy bar screams, and Gotoh machine heads round out its hardware choices. A reverse headstock is also present.

At the heart of the FRH20 is its modified FR hollowbody design, a bold reimagining that retains the comfort and balance of a solidbody while embracing the tonal warmth of a classical guitar. The solid flame or quilted maple top, braced in traditional fan style, vibrates freely to produce a rich, resonant voice with excellent sustain. Back and sides of Sapele round out the tone with a warm foundation and subtle treble bite, ensuring a versatile palette that excels in both acoustic intimacy and plugged-in performance.

Unlike traditional nylon-string guitars with chunky necks and flat fingerboards, the FRH20 leans into modern playability. Its Nyatoh neck is carved into a comfortable “C” shape with a slim profile, while the Rosewood fingerboard sports a familiar 15.75″ radius for smooth bends and effortless runs. The 1.8″ nut width splits the difference between classical spacing and electric familiarity, making it equally inviting for lifelong classical players and electric guitarists stepping into nylon territory.

For more than 40 years, Ibanez has pioneered new frontiers in bass development, pushing the boundaries of conventional designs to bass players of all styles, affording new avenues of expression and creativity. This spirit of exploration has led to the creation of some of the most successful and popular production basses of all time. Following this same drive to bring new and relevant ideas to the musical forefront is what serves as the basis for this ongoing project, dubbed the Ibanez Bass Workshop. The impetus behind each one of these unique instruments comes from a desire by the Ibanez bass development team to satisfy the particular needs of many players.

The latest models to push the boundaries of convential bass are the BTB865MS in Transparent White Flat and a BTB866MS in Brown Topaz Burst Flat. A 5 and 6 string respectivley, they boh utilse T1 passive pickups, Ash top and Okoume/Ash wing bodies, a neck through Multi Scale 5pc Maple/Walnut neck with graphite reinforcement rods, and a bound Panga Panga fretboard.
