American Touring Heavyweights Purchases Two of Australia's Premier Festivals

Secret Sounds goes up for sale

Live Nation buys out a majority share in Splendour & Falls Fest Organisers

Global touring powerhouse Live Nation have purchased the majority share in Australia’s Secret Sounds group, who are behind two of the most successful events on the Australian music festival calendar. The Los Angeles based group announced early December that they have invested to acquire a 51% majority share in Secret Sounds. This will see two additions to the company’s growing portfolio of festivals, which include Austin City Limits, New York Governor’s Ball, Reading and Leeds Festival, Bonnaroo and Electric Daisy Festival.

In an official statement from the Live Nation CEO, Michael Rapino praised the co-directors of Secret Sounds Jess Ducrou and Paul Piticco in their careful curation from small start-up to the current state of the domestic heavyweight status of the two festival brands. He goes on to say Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festivals are the two most iconic festivals in Australia. Jess [Ducrou] and Paul [Piticco] have created events that attract the biggest artists in the world but still feel uniquely Australian. We look forward to partnering with them to find new ways to grow our live event footprint across Australia."

Further cementing the company’s foothold on the global music festival stage, this acquisition represents the first foray Live Nation have made into the Australian music festival market. Ducrou and Piticco, further added that, "We started Secret Sounds with the sole mission of introducing Australians to the best artists, events and music possible, and Live Nation is the perfect partner to help us take this goal to the next level. With their support we can continue to curate the line-ups that fans love, while also experimenting with new exciting ways for fans to experience live music."

The announcement comes just a couple months after the festival promoter unveiled a major restructuring of the company, merging the various offshoot management and touring companies under the Secret Sounds umbrella.

After a roaring success this year Splendour in the Grass will return to the North Byron Parklands in 2017, while Falls Festival will be touring Byron Bay, Fremantle, Lorne and Marion Bay from 28 December 2016 to 8 January 2017.
