Gibson Century Acoustics

In honour of the 100th anniversary of Gibson flat-top acoustic guitars, three new 12-fret models have been launched as part of the Century Collection. The J-45™ Century 12-Fret, L-00 Century 12-Fret, and J-185 Century 12-Fret, are available in Vintage Amber, Vintage Sunburst, and Ebony nitrocellulose lacquer finishes and as left-handed versions, with each featuring a 12-fret neck-to-body joint.

The all-new Century Collection is made using the same proportions and principles that make the originals some of the most collectible vintage acoustics: deeper-set 12-fret necks for easy reach, perfect bridge placement in the heart of the soundboard, featherweight construction and bracing, a thin satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish, and the unique Gibson scale length that gives our guitars soul.”

The placement of the neck joint at the 12th fret instead of the more common 14-fret configuration shortens the neck and moves the bridge plate farther from the waist and closer to the body’s widest point, enhancing top movement and improving playing comfort. It also means that tonally, these guitars have a warm, lively, and responsive voice that suits fingerstyle players and those with a lighter, nuanced touch.
